Romance Books

Escape into the annuls of time with historical fiction interspersed with passion, love and romance. The essence of good historical romance books can depend on stories of political and religious intrigue, where greed and lust for power create a cesspool of corruption and inhumanity.

You are able to experience the magnificence of the human soul where acts of valour, sympathy, respect, candour and love rise above darkness and overcome all. Or something like that anyway! [More below ...]

Historical Romance Books

The best romance books which draw on the past as the basis of their tale are engaging, amusing, thought-provoking and educational. It is undoubtedly an appealing way to find out about ourselves as we acquire an understanding of the condition of previous societies, partnerships, human nature, matrimony, politics and faith.

Philippa Gregory is one of a number of romantic fiction writers who has penned many books set in the Tudor years.

One of her latest historical romance books, The Red Queen tells the story of the child-bride of Edmund Tudor, who, although widowed in her early teens, uses her determination of character and wily plotting to infiltrate the house of York under the guise of loyal friend and servant, undermine the support for Richard III and ultimately ensure that her only son, Henry Tudor, triumphs as King of England.

Through collaboration with the dowager Queen Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret agrees a betrothal between Henry and Elizabeth's daughter, thereby uniting the families and resolving the Cousins War once and for all by founding of the Tudor dynasty.

Some of the best romance books available are a chief source of enjoyment, primarily for women I hasten to add. Books such as Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice and Love Story come swiftly to mind and the latest romantic fiction authors like Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper have made romantic fiction a great deal more racey.

Quite possibly someone you’d consider an extremely unlikely member of the romantic fiction authors group is celebrity gardener and TV presenter, Alan Titchmarsh who has dipped his toe into the romance novel waters on more than one occasion.

Even while adding a further string to his bow, Alan’s romance books prove his ability to write fiction books crammed with romance, wit and adversity forming the right formula for a tremendous read!

The Haunting is a tender love story that's rich in history, intrigue and murder. The story centres on a schoolteacher who following the failure of his marriage chooses to trace his family history only to find that an ancestor’s puzzling disappearance generations before could have an impact on his life today.

Romance Books for Adults

Mills & Boon was founded by Gerald Rusgrove Mills and Charles Boon in 1908 as a general fiction publisher, although their first book was, not surprisingly, a romance. Mills & Boon published in a form and at a price that was within the reach of a wide readership.

Romance was noted to be the favourite genre and in the 1930s the company decided to concentrate on hardback romance books for adults, a policy which became increasingly successful.

Romantic fiction publishers, Mills & Boon is an unidsputed market leader in romance books for adults and have a dedicated following of readers.

They also have a book club that you may want to join and be the first to receive the best up to date titles.

They do and always have had their critics, mainly because its modern romance books are considered low-brow and formulaic, although this has also been cited as one of the reasons for their success.

There are almost 100 modern Mills & Boon novels released each month and they all cover a wide variety of romantic sub genres. Whilst retaining the familiar format we have come to expect from Mills & Boon books they do vary in style and setting and in their degree of explicitness.

Electronic publishing has allowed Mills & Boon to double its output. As of 2012, it now releases for download around 100 romance eBooks online per month and sells more eBooks than physical books.

It may be said that digital lends itself very easily to the type of content Mills & Boon produce. Readers of their romance books can finish reading one book and then quickly download the next.

Their books can be read quite quickly, providing an intense reading experience. As it's possible for readers to enjoy around 4 or 5 books in as many days, this would mean carrying a lot of them around with you. That is no longer necessary with the advent of Mills & Boon romance eBooks online. Download eBooks for eReaders at Shop4Books.

There are a great many authors of fiction romance books to choose between, some classic plus some modern, based on your favoured kind of romance fiction.

For some there is nothing better than sitting down to read hot fiction romance books but discovering the latest hot books can be rather daunting.

There are a variety of ways in which you can get hold of adult romance books, particularly those novels that you simply find hard to put down. We think the best and easiest way to find fiction romance books is to browse our fiction romance sub category for the latest romantic fiction online.

For personalised romance books please take a look at our personalised books for adults and kids page. From here you can select your romance book and set about changing the names of the characters in the book to people that you know. With just a few changes these romance fiction novels can be all about you instead!
